Content[]
Summary[]
A wealthy man, long embittered by the death of his son in a car crash, hired hoodlums to sabotage cars around the city. He also would not let his daughter be a race car driver.
Plot[]
Trivia[]
In the episode, Speed Racer responds to Sparky’s request to start the Mach 5 with the unusually phrased expression, 'Okal Dokal'—a quirky variation of the more familiar American slang term 'Okey Dokey,' both meaning 'okay.' This subtle choice adds a unique charm to the character's dialogue.[]
Background[]
Regional Differences[]
- The units were changed from metric to imperial units.
- The dialogue between Speed and Trixie after he warns her that she was going over the speed limit was changed from the Japanese version. Trixie blamed Pops for designing the Mach 5 as the best car with Speed telling her that she's sassy. The English dub changes it that Trixie just likes to go fast, with Speed remaking that he knows, but they have to obey the traffic laws.
- The dialogue of Mr. Trotter yelling at Speed after the former was strangling the teenager was from the Japanese version. In the Japanese version, he gasps after he sees that Speed resembles his dead son and apologizes. The English dub changes it of Mr. Trotter just yelling more at Speed that he lost his son because of cars. When it transitions to Speed looking a bit worried, it has a inner thought of him apologizing about his son. Mr. Trotter's apology in the dub was altered that he tells Speed that reminds him of his son.
- The scene where Sparky and Pops are fixing the paint scrapes was altered in the English dub. In the Japanese version, Pops was asking Speed what happened to the Mach 5, with Speed telling him that it was from pranksters. The English dub changes it with Pops just remarking that the paint is coming off. Because of this, the scene of Speed telling Pops about the paint scrapes was removed.
- The scene where Mr. Trotter was whipping his tired horse after trying to put his daughter on him to take her to a hospital was completely removed from the DVD and Blu-ray discs.
- Speed and Trixie's dialogue after Janine's accident when they confront Mr. Trotter was changed. In the Japanese, Speed yells at Mr. Trotter for his actions and can't let his daughter live like this, with Trixie telling the father they need to get to a hospital right away. The dub changes it with Speed telling Mr. Trotter that they need to take Janine to a hospital and whipping his horse won't help as it's too tired. Trixie tells off Mr. Trotter that his actions are very petty and taking care of his daughter is more important.
- Spritle was speaking when he was giving flowers to Janine in the Japanese version. But the English dub just has Janine thanking them for helping her out.
- After Mr. Trotter allows his daughter to drive, Speed and Trixie's exchange to her was different in both dubs. The Japanese version has Trixie asking Speed about giving Janine driving lessons, with Speed remarking that he won't go easy on her. The English dub changes it with Trixie telling Janine that Speed can offer driving lessons, with Speed also telling Janine that she needs to obey the laws of the road.
