The Race Against the Mammoth Car (Part 2) is the eighth episode of Speed Racer. It first aired in Japan on May 21, 1967 on Fuji TV.

Summary[]
Speed and Trixie continue to pursue the Mammoth Car, believing it is carrying the stolen gold, but are captured in the mining tunnel.
Plot[]
Thinking that Speed and Trixie are dead at the bottom of Lake Icy Chill, the Mammoth Car drivers continue the race. Through Speed's telescanner, he sees them leave as he reaches soil. Trixie now sends a message in the homing robot to Inspector Detector. Speed strongly suspects that the stolen gold is aboard on the Mammoth Car. From his plane, Cruncher Block spots the Mach 5 back on the road. After the Mammoth Car steers off the road, Speed and Trixie follow it, as does Racer X. The Mammoth Car leads them to an oil refinery. As Speed and Trixie get out to investigate Cruncher Block's plane, some of the Mammoth Car's crew fires at them. When they escape into a mining tunnel, they jump on top of a speeding trolley car before it crashes. Back at the refueling station, Spritle and Chim Chim sneak outside of Cruncher's airplane. They escape into the tunnel, which turned out to be Cruncher's headquarters. Speed and Trixie are both tied to a trolley loaded with three tons of dynamite connected to it. Racer X arrives and saves both of them.
At the checkpoint, the Inspector searches the Mammoth Car. No gold is found there. When Speed reaches the checkpoint, Spritle and Chim Chim slip out to hide in the Mammoth Car. The Mach 5 and the Mammoth Car cross the finish line and tie for first place. They continue at breakneck speed towards the shipyard. Now, Spritle and Chim Chim both knock out the Car’s driver while Speed jumps in and then flees with his brother and chimp just as the car crashes into an oil tank, causing a huge fire and explosion and making it melt into a pool of molten gold from the heat of the blaze.

Regional Differences[]
- Narration was added in several parts in the English dub that wasn't present in the Japanese version:
- When the Mach 5 was driving all night. This replaces dialogue from Speed in the Japanese dub when he tells the crew that the sun's up and they need to catch up with the Mammoth Car.
- When it gets to checkpoint of the race.
- The recap narration in the Japanese version was from Speed, whereas in the English dub was the narrator.
- Who Trixie was talking to through the radio differs. In Japanese, she was trying to talk to Pops to give Inspector Detector the warning. In English, it was directly at Inspector Detector.
- Trixie's remark at Crunch Block flying down the Mach 5. In Japanese, she says that the plane was rude, whereas in the English dub has her saying it was done on purpose.
- When Cruncher Block was speaking to the Mammoth Car drivers, the tall one tells him that they send the Mach 5 to Hades, with their boss remarking that Hades sent them back to the living world. In the English dub, the tall driver tells them they drown them at he lake with Cruncher Block telling them to look behind and says "And don't tell me they're ghosts".
- The stout driver finds out about the Mach 5 himself when it shows up at the rear mirror, but the dub implies he didn't know until the tall one yells it out.
- In the same scene, the tall one remarks that they're lucky devils. The English just has the stout one questioning out how they escape their drowning.
- Trixie only spoke when they saw the plane, but the English dub has her only speaking one line with Speed suggesting to investigate it.
- Cruncher Block tells Speed and Trixie that the mine engine has the dynamite, whereas the English dub implies that the crate tied around the two is filled with dynamite.
- Racer X gives Speed advice after the latter was thinking over that Racer X reminds him of his brother Rex. But the dub just has Racer X asking Speed why he looks puzzled, with Speed saying it's nothing.
- When the Mammoth Car reaches the check point, one of the inspectors tells them that they're the first to be there with the the tall driver telling that they are as they didn't built the car for fun. The English dub has the announcer speaking this out, with the inspector telling the crew they're winning. The tall driver is very hasty and tells the inspector to stamp their paper.
- The dialogue during Pops' inspection at the Mach 5's trunk is different. Speed remarks that Spritle and Chim-Chim were there before in the Japanese dub. But the English dub just has him stating that the Mammoth Car is about to leave. Also there was dialogue from one of the Mammoth Car drivers to clear the road.
- Speed and Trixie yell off screen that they're gonna chase the Mammoth Car once it leaves was only in the English dub.
- Spritle's excuse to be lowered down by one of the Mammoth Car crew members differs in both versions. In Japanese, it's because he has to go to the bathroom and the crew member only got him down as he can't hold it on much longer. In English, it's because Spritle says he'll behave.
- Trixie spoke after the Mach 5 was gunned as the Mammoth Car was about to enter in the ship. This was absent in the English dub.
- The stout driver speaking when Spritle and Chim Chim were threatening the two drivers was only in the dub.
- Spritle scolds at Chim Chim that he shouldn't knock the drivers down. The English dub just has him saying on how they can stop the Mammoth Car.
- Pops tells Speed and Trixie that they won as the Mammoth Car was disqualified and caught the crooks that stole the gold. The English dub just has Pops explaining that Mammoth Car was just disqualified and even though they are a tie, Speed is declared the winner.
Goofs/Continuity Errors[]
- When Speed tells Spritle and Chim Chim to hang on, his mouth does not move.
